Sometimes you’re just not on your game. Life gets busy and things get pushed to the wayside. I’ve had a decent summer. I’ve taken some fun trips, seen some neat things, but I haven’t had the desire to share them. It’s been months since I’ve opened my computer with the goal of creating a new blog post, and that sucks, because I love this blog and what it’s about. So I’m sorry to my readers. I left you behind, no warning, no reason, and no posts. I had a bout of laziness. I hope you can forgive me.
Occasionally you just get out of the loop. And before you know it you’re so far out, that it becomes hard to imagine yourself ever getting back in. So you just stay out of the loop, hoping that one day someone or something will forcefully lasso you back in. Well last week I met my cowboy.

I’ve been meeting a friend for early morning hikes on City Creek Trail. We have both been going through some bouts of depression dealing with the imminent death of our two beloved pets. The goal of these hikes was twofold. One, get us out of the house and focusing our minds on something else, and two, to get our depressed, fat-asses in shape.
While the hiking has genuinely helped in both of those areas, I have also found a much needed reconnection to my surroundings. When I’m at home I don’t often think about where I live or how lucky I am. I’m too busy folding laundry, giving medicine, or watching trash TV. But when I’m up City Creek, I become overwhelmed with gratitude for the community I live in. And gratitude feels good.

I’m so lucky to have great friends and family who live here and who share in the same hobbies I do. I’m so lucky to have miles and miles of beautiful trails only steps from my front door. I’m so lucky to live in a place that helps me to feel healthy and happy.
If you've been experiencing a similar feeling, a disconnection from what surrounds you, get out there. The scenery is beautiful and the sounds are even better. A heavy breeze blowing through the aspens, a snake slithering through the thick grass, or the laughter of a group of friends up ahead enjoying the same things you are. On the trail there is both togetherness and solitude, there is time to connect with others, ourselves and nature. And I’m so thankful to have found that once again. Thanks cowboy.

So I’m back on the blogosphere trail, hiking along, looking for stories, and sharing my love for Poky. I just have to remember what we all have to remember, to put one foot in front of another…and keep going.
Thanks for all of your support!
